Today, its last habitat comprises the Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary, Little Rann of Kutch and the surrounding areas of the Greater Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. The animal is also seen in the districts of Surendranagar, Banaskantha, Mehsana, and around Kutch. Saline desert, arid grassland and shrublands are its preferred habitat.Blackbuck National Park at Velavadar is situated in the Bhavnagar District of Gujarat state, India.
